BYO Recreation and their installation company, National Playground Construction (NPC), worked together to professionally install two Create Play structures for a new elementary school in St. Augustine throughout the end of May.

Palencia Elementary School, completing its inaugural year next week, took advantage of BYO Recreation's 2^nd Annual $1 Million Create Play Fund and purchased a Desert Oasis playground structure and a Radical Run fitness structure. Because of the substantial savings they incurred due to Create Play, they were able to purchase Poured-in-Place Safety Surfacing that includes their pirate ship logo in the design.

Professional installation ensures that the playground equipment is properly installed, meeting safety requirements. BYO Recreation & NPC's installers are all Certified Playground Safety Inspectors, are familiar with the equipment, meaning there's no guess work.

The installation at Palencia Elementary took a total of two weeks, one for the construction of the two playground structures and another for the installation of the Poured-in-Place Safety Surfacing. Both jobs involved a lot of demanding and rigorous manual labor.

The playground equipment was shipped freight in crates and on pallets. When the truck arrived at the playground site, the installers unloaded the equipment with a forklift, and by hand, depending on what was necessary. Once the equipment was unloaded, the installers checked that all parts were present and in perfect condition.

The next step was to lay out the equipment in the use zone—an essential step in the installation process. This is how the installers know where the holes are going to go and make sure the distances are correct in relation to the other equipment.

After the installers laid the pieces out, they used an auger to dig the holes in the asphalt so they could install the posts in the ground with concrete. The concrete set overnight, then the installers began to lay the decks and other play components.

Once the playground was fully constructed, the Poured-in-Place installers began the process of marking out the area and mixing the rubber with glue and laying it out. First, they lay a thick base coat. For the space at Palencia, this took about two days including dry time. The next step is to layout the top coat, allow it to dry and then they will incorporate the pirate ship design.
